Hex Jam nuts are fasteners that have internal threads and are used in conjunction with bolts, and are mechanical parts that have internal threads and are used in conjunction with screws to transmit motion or power.

 

Hex jam nuts are divided into three types: type I, type II and thin type according to their nominal thickness. Nuts above grade 8 are divided into two types: Type I and Type II.

 

The height of type II nut is higher than that of type 1, and its type and size should conform to GB/T6175. There are two purposes for adding type II nuts: one is to obtain a relatively inexpensive nut that does not require heat treatment by increasing the height of the nut.

 

Because the 8-level I-type nuts with D≤M16 do not need heat treatment, among the 8-level nuts, only the specifications of D>M16~39 can use the 2-type nuts.

 

Obviously, type I nuts that do not require heat treatment cannot meet the mechanical performance requirements of grade 9 nuts. Another purpose of specifying type II nuts is to obtain a grade 12 nut with better toughness. As the height of the nut increases, the guaranteed stress index can be achieved at a lower quenching and tempering hardness, so the toughness of the nut is increased.
